It is possible to use domestic gas cookers provided they are converted to use LPG rather than natural gas. Check before buying that a LPG kit is supplied with the cooker or can be obtained.
Conversion is a simple task which can be done by anyone with basic mechanic skill, ie can use a screw driver.
I converted my cooker in about 25 mintues.

My plan is to use a "cook top" -- a range of gas rings that's fitted to a panel and meant to be installed into a fitted kitchen counter top. These are readily available in LPG format in the US. To keep things clean, I'm looking for a downdraft extractor fan unit with a grille next to the cooktop. We're planning for a microwave oven next to the cook top. "The Management" has agreed that a full cooker oven is not needed for our purposes, so that makes it easier. The fitted counter for the cooktop will be built over the nearside rear-wheel well. It should provide some room for drawers and cabinets for storage underneath although the wheelwell itself will restrict a good bit of the undercounter volume. The reason that it's over the nearside wheel is that the emergency door is near the offside wheel and we want that door available for use in case of a cooking fire, etc. Bruce Henderson, USA

All domestic gas cookers sold in the UK are prepared to operate with natural gas, domestic gas supply.
Some cookers can be converted to run on bottled gas. Check before buying to ensure that the conversion kit is included or is available.
It is an easy and straight forward job to change the jet nozzles inside the burners. All you are doing is changing the size of the hole that the gas comes out of so that it is released at the correct pressure.
Just make sure the cooker you buy can be converted.

I had a Baby Belling, which was designed for LPG, and of course small, and still the oven and grill were pretty shoddy. I may rethink if/when I get the bus back, but my design has the cooker on top of a cupboard. Mind you, the stove needs to be on the floor, so maybe I do away with that cupboard...... It's not like I'll be going to India again.
