My name is Steve, I am based in the Northeast. I am converting a 1985 MCW Metrobus into a motorhome with hospital/hispice cubical type facilities for a severely disabled child. The project was commenced towards the end of September and progressed fairly well until the clocks changed and the weather colder. Evening and outdoor work stopped and is now currently sunday only and only if we get use of a shed. Pace should pickup when we move from external work to internal as the bus becomes our workshop! So far we have removed many seats and badly scribed windows. The side windows have been panelled with aluminium as has the whole rear. Removing destination boards front & rear. We have left windows for a longe area upper front and 2 windows on lower deck. We have a few items to fix too these being the 3mph door lock system, non working dash lights and the heating is very poor. The interior conversion will be done by leaving as much of the interior panelling and features as possible. I did intend to set up a website with very detailed diary but never got it sorted. Some pictures can be seen here www.double-decker.orgSteve.

Nice Bus Steve,
I've never driven one, we've mainly got olympians in Edinburgh.
What engine does it have? I gather it is fully automatic being 1985.

Gardner engines are fantastic, I've got a 6hlxb in my seddon. I drive a Gardner engined olympian at work. Check out the links page for Gardner engine spares. There are two places in Manchester.

Hello, all. I'm in North Carolina, USA and am the proud owner of a 1976 (P-Reg) Daimler Fleetline bus, with Leyland O-680 engine and fully auto gearbox. It's a 33- foot chassis, and was fitted with a Northern Counties body. I'm in the beginning stages of a conversion to a motor home. Current plans are to have a bedroom upstairs (back) with fully fitted cupboards and wardrobe and a small toilet. Up front upstairs will be a sitting area with couches in a U shape, covertible to three bunks, and a "coffee table" in the center ("centre"?) with a well for a beer cooler in the middle. Downstairs will be the main toilet and shower area in the corner behind the stairs. The kitchen sink will be on a cabinet over the r-rear wheel pair, with the cooker surface over the l-rear wheels (the microwave will go here, too). The fridge and a worksurface with drawers and cabinets will be between the l-rear wheel hump and the rear door. The near-side side-facing seat over the front wheel will be converted into a seating area (convertible to bunk) with foldable table for main dining area. I'm not quite sure what to do with the full-width bench seat across the rear downstairs - probably keep it preety much the way it is with maybe a small folding table there to make it into a "breakfast nook". I'm hoping to keep the side-facing seat over the off-side front wheel but it's likely that that area may have to go for water heater, air con (it's a must in our conditions) battery storage and similar "service" uses. If so, I'll remove the window and panel it over on the outside and provide a "cabinet built" panel on the interior. I have lots of questions about maintenance and operation of my bus -- they'll come later. Many thanks, and good bussin' to all, Bruce Henderson, Wallace North Carolina, USA

Hi Folks, Say Hello here, introduce yourself, tell us all about yourself and your vehicle or plans. TEXT Hi I'm Steve, I've just bought a DAF Odyssee 45 seater to convert into a mobile home to take to Spain to live in full time. Would like to know if there are any regulations ref: gas and electrics.

Hi Steve, Welcome. As far as I can make out there is no legistlation regarding gas and electrics for a self build motorhome. Your insurer may impose requirements. The safest approach is to apply caravan regs with regards to such installations. Self Build Motor Caravanners Club has some good reference material www.sbmcc.co.uk/

Hi folks, I've just moved back from Scotland to the SouthWest near Bristol, I drove for LRT in Edinburgh for couple of years (central, and marine) Housing market has left me way behind so I'm looking to buy an Atlantean or somehting else cheapish and reasonably common and turn it into a home... I've got somewhere to park it up, but as I work in the event industry I may well take it to work with me (I work at various festivals and outdoor events) so there's quite a few advantages. Glad to have found a site devoted to what is a slightly unconventional lifestyle choice Hi Folks, Say Hello here, introduce yourself, tell us all about yourself and your vehicle or plans.
