Under PCV law the driver is required to check the vehicle before leaving the depot in the morning. A check list must be completed and handed into the office before departure.
Whilst we are not covered by PCV law it would be prudent to carry out the same checks before driving your vehicle.
The check list requires a walk around check of the exterior and interior of the vehicle.
Exterior
Check for loose body panels or damage, check the wing mirrors are secure.
Check the wheel nuts, ensure that they are all there and they are all tight. You can get pointer indicators which highlight any movement in your wheel nuts.
Check the tyres, the minimum tyre depth for a converted bus is 1.6mm [not 1.0mm], check the inner rear wheels.
Switch on all side/head/tail lights, indicators and brake lights etc check lights are working and clean.
Check the emergency exit doors and ensure the warning buzzer is operating. Under PCV law it is illegal to drive with the emergency exit locked. It would be advisable to ensure the door is unlocked for you own safety in anycase.
Fluid levels, coolant, oil, power steering should be checked prior to starting the engine.
Under PCV law the emergency engine stops must be operating. [ from experience I would suggest removing these as children find them very attractive especially at traffic lights ]
Interior checks
Power or air operated doors must be operational and any warning devices fitted must be operational.
All warning lights and buzzers in the cab must be working.
Steering and braking systems must not be defective.
All seating must be check for security, seat belts must be checked.
Interior lighting, under PCV law lighting must be provided when passengers are aboard.
The bell must be working [ ;D ]
