Hi I had a 1956 Austin coach back in 1973, I bought it and taxed it, and insured it with my local broker, I was 23 and it cost less to insure than a car. I think things may have changed a bit. I,m not even sure what I am qualified to drive now. I have lots of time now and would really like to convert a large vehicle. I have tried to get a general quotes from insurance companies but it seems if it does fit in a box on their computer they don't want to know.
I would be grateful if anyone could give me any info on insurance and my licence situation.
Thank you
Eric

Hi Eric,
Having done the maths, you have probably held your license long enough to be able to drive anything up to 12 tonnes. But your safest bet is to get on the blower to the DVLA.
Cheers,
Luke

Try Adrian Flux for your insurance needs, you can find them on the web.

Hi everyone, We are having a Leyland Lynx single decker converted into a snooker themed bus (see www.snookerskills.com ) for details. I tried Adrian Flux to get a quote to insure the vehicle but they are no longer interested in insuring converted buses although they are still ok to do converted mini-buses and camper vans etc. If anyone knows where I could try next I would be grateful for any info.

Hello! The snookerbus looks like fun! We're buying a double decker that's been converted into a motorhome. Did you have any luck finding insurance? We could do with some tips! Thanks

Hello, did you have any luck? We found a good quote from Sureterm, but then their manager said they couldn't insure us until we'd owned it for a year as it would be too much of a risk to insure someone with such little experience...
Everyone else has either said it's too old, too heavy, or too big engine.
Please let me know if you find somewhere!
Thanks
