Hi all, really pleased to have found this site. I am from Wales uk and am looking for some help please any would be appreciated.
Right firstly I posses both D and D1 categories on my driving licence, but I passed my cay test post 1997 so am restricted to 3.5 otherwise.
Secondly: I am a motor trader and have insurance to cover me to drive any vehicle that my licence entitles me to drive up to 7.5T and a maximum of 8 passenger seats. This insurance covers me to drive for social/pleasure domestic and work.
I have purchased A mercedes 609D HD Bus/Coach as stated on the log book with a total of 17 seats. Its DGW is 5600kg. It is an ex disabled bus and can infact carry up to 4 wheelchairs in place of the usual seats which can be readily removed on tracking. As stated on the COIF. This vehicle has always been this way since new first commissioned by wrexham council and then owned and operated for the last 12 years by a small independant operator.
I have removed the wheel chair lift from the rear of the vehicle and also reduced the seating capacity to 9 seats total. 1 driver + 8 passengers. This is to comply with my insurance.
I have taken the HD Bus/Coach for its MoT which it it went through as class 4. To be eligible I have had to fit a complete row of seats across the rear of the vehicle so as to prevent a pallet being loaded.
I have submitted the log book to the dvla with the updated seating capacity, 9 in total.
I have questions.
Firstly - will my licence cover me to drive this bus still.
Secondly - What bracket will the tax be.
I am worried that by reducing the seating capacity I have infact changed the type of vehicle which surely would be M3. ie bus weighing over 5 ton
Will it now be classified as category M1, a passenger vehicle up to 8 seats.
I am completely flummoxed by the whole process and am worrying as I plan on using this bus in less than 3 weeks for taking the family on holiday and would like to find out asap if I need to think again.
Thanks in advance Jon.
