I currently have a Bristol Lodekka FLF6B with a Bristol BVW engine. The top speed on this is 55 mph. I am converting this bus into an rv and will be traveling the country in it. I want to put an engine in that will fit and allow me to maintain 55 mph going up hill. Plus I need one that has parts readily available so if I breakdown I wont have a problem getting it fixed.
I spoke with a guy at a diesel shop who told me he thought the best engine at an affordable price is the Cummins 5.9 engine. He said it would easily handle the bus being loaded with stuff for rv living and pulling a large car while going uphill, plus parts are very available being one of the most popular motorhome engines. I guess I need a second and third opinion before I put in the money and work into this.
Any thoughts on his suggestion or any suggestions for engines in general?
FYI- I am planning to purchase a transmission as well, so I don't think the flywheel rotation direction matters much.

Please excuse my ignorance but is this an impossibility? If so, why? I see diesels going up california's grapevine grade at 55 and they are pulling loads heavier than my bus. I know they have bigger engines and all but I would imagine that there would be something out there that would work.
